A Live Event Painting Story: Intimate Rehearsal Dinner at Mountain Chalet

I didn’t know what to expect when I was invited to paint at this rehearsal dinner in the mountains last winter. I am used to painting the grandiose excitement of the wedding ceremony and the party that ensues, but I had never tried to paint at a rehearsal dinner before. It turns out that a small cozy setting like this is a great opportunity to study the personalities and the charm of my subjects, and the surprising presence of my easel and paints was a great conversation starter to get to know them better as they came to check out the painting as it progressed. The bride had an infectious smile and loved to dance, and her groom absolutely doted on her. It was a pleasure to try and work some of her energy and laughter into this piece.
